Permaculture Workshops in Ellenville

Come on up to Ellenville! These are the workshops that many of you have been clamoring for. They will be relaxed, very informative, fun and a great way to help contribute to the building of our educational center. Everything that we will be working on here will be used and enjoyed by future students for many years to come. Please feel free to camp out on our land and take in the sights the following day at one of the many gorgeous hiking areas (Lake Minnewaska, Sam’s Point, Peter’s Kill to name a few…).
All classes 11am till 6pm
Cost $75 for each workshop (Except Earth Oven Workshop)
Includes Lunch (Except the Free Workshop on Aug 7th)

Saturday, June 26th
Permaculture Buildings- An in depth workshop covering building techniques for pole construction, natural building and the use and harvest of on-site materials. We will also discuss and implement siting buildings for passive solar and water harvesting.
Saturday, July 10th
Off Grid Water Systems- Learn how to set up small three season water systems including rain water catch, gravity fed, spring water, cisterns, passive solar hot water and more!
Saturday, July 17th
Outhouse and Outdoor Shower Construction- We will design, site and build an outhouse and outdoor shower on our land that will incorporate systems that we set up in our Off Grid Water Systems workshop.
Saturday, July 24th
Grey Water- In this workshop we will design and install a grey water system for our outdoor shower. We will use various species of plants known not only for their beauty but their ability to uptake copious amounts of water and nutrients. Grow away waste!
Saturday, July 31st
Small Pond and Spring Development- Learn how to develop springs into potential sites for small ponds through the identification of indicator species of plants and animals as well as lay of the land and other techniques. Come prepared to dig and get muddy!

Plant Identification and Medicinal Herb Walk and Reading the Land/Natural Meadow Management
Come on out for a day trip to take a walk on our property while we identify and discuss the many useful plants that call our land home. Andrew will talk in depth about reading the landscape as well as our strategies for managing our 10 acre meadow. Bring a lunch! Bring binoculars for all the birds! Camp overnight!

Weekend Earthen Oven Intensive
With Mark Krawyczk
Learn to build your own earthen bread and pizza oven using natural materials from your backyard. We will explore the entire construction process from foundation to roof, and spend the weekend building a simple, functional, beautiful earthen oven. Class sessions will be comprised of hands-on construction, lecture, and presentations
covering building fundamentals that include siting, design, structure, moisture protection, materials selection, heating and insulation. Join us and develop the skills you need to build your own earthen oven and feed your friends and family on fantastic baked goodies!
Mark Krawczyk is a permaculture designer and educator, natural builder, traditional woodworker and ecological landscaper who resides in Burlington, VT. He has worked with leaders in these fields throughout North America and the UK. He is a member of Seven Generations Natural Builders collective, owns and operates ‘Keyline Vermont’ – a sustainable farm design consulting business, maintains a small woodworking/chairmaking company – RivenWoodCrafts and is the co-
founder of the local permaculture and sustainability-focused community group Burlington Permaculture.

What To Bring
Good boots and work gloves, comfortable light colored clothing (makes it easier to see those ticks!), bug repellent, cup for beverages and bowl and utensils for food.
We are just two hours north of the city by car and Coach USA busses drop off in the town of Ellenville at 10:42am. We will organize carpooling as well.
