The vegetable garden is likely to require daily harvesting now. Cucumbers, squash, tomatoes, eggplant, and peppers should be picked as soon as the fruits are ready. This captures the best flavor, and also makes way for new fruits. Remove dead pea vines, bolted lettuce, and other plants that have gone by and add them to the compost pile.

1] Website Migration and New Template
If you haven’t been to the Alchemical Nursery website recently, take a peek. We’ve completed our data migration to the updated version of our Joomla! content management system, and in the process have also updated our theme template – so things have a new look.
The layout and final content are not yet 100% complete as certain modules still need to be recreated and certain settings need to be reapplied, so you’ll notice more differences in the weeks to come as the final layout gets settled in. So in the meantime please excuse our dust.

3] Save-The-Date – Oct 2 and Oct 3
Alchemical is organizing two exciting events for this fall.
October 2 – “Attend a special screening of the documentary film “Visions of Utopia” (94 minutes) – Saturday October 2nd, starting at 11:00 am, at the Westcott Community Center, corner of Euclid Ave and Westcott St, Syracuse, NY. This event is FREE and open to everyone, and will take place in partnership with the Westcott Bulb Project. “Visions of Utopia”, distributed by the Fellowship for Intentional Communities, features profiles of seven diverse communities from across the breadth of the United States, plus a fascinating history of 2500 years of shared living intentional communities. This film garnered the Communal Studies Association’s “Outstanding Project Award” for Producer Geoph Kozeny. A panel discussion will be held at the conclusion of the screening where we will discuss reactions to the film, as well as intentional community and ecovillage initiatives in the Central NY region.”
October 3 – Join the Syracuse Permaculture Guild for a Sunday afternoon of permaculture education and comraderie. Folks will come together for a 12 Noon potluck lunch at 717 Otisco Street. While digging in, Valerie Dawnstar will present an Introduction to Permaculture curriculum and discussion that will be followed by some hands-on activities to help develop the permaculture landscape at this urban residential property. The focus of the activities will relate to preparing your landscape/garden for fall production and winter rest in preparation for next year’s growing season.
