Despite overwhelming public support and a *yes* vote from the Common Council, we’ve gotten inside word that *Jennings is planning to veto the Albany Chickens legislation. *
Given that there is no sound reasoning for a veto and that online polls, blogs, newspapers, petitions and letters to the Mayor show that the majority of the public is in favor of the law, this would be a *huge *slap in the face to the people of Albany.
We need to let Jerry Jennings know *NOW* that we would find a veto completely unacceptable.
Please take 5 minutes out of your day to call the Mayor’s office at *434-5100 *and let him know that:
a) You are a voting Albany resident (give name and address)
b) You want him to sign the legislation to make chickens legal in Albany c) Give a reason–ie, political suicide/bad publicity if he vetoes, issues of sustainability, other cities have them with no problems, etc.
We need to send the message that we will be a *MAJOR *thorn in his side if he decides to veto. Jennings has until the end of the business day tomorrow to make a decision. It is urgent that we let him know *TODAY *that we want this legislation to pass.
