In NYC? 6th St Community Center turns 35! Celebrate! 4/28/12
Hi,
I’d like to invite you to join me and lots of others in celebrating the 35th anniversary of the 6th Street Community Center on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, on SATURDAY, APRIL 28, from 6 pm to 11 pm (after the Brooklyn Peace Fair, at Brooklyn College earlier in the day).
Sixth Street Center, located in what once was an old synagogue from the Emma Goldman days, is at the … um … CENTER of the movement to save organic foods, anti-pesticides and anti-Genetic Engineering work in NY City.
Its Community Supported Agriculture program is absolutely wonderful, bringing healthy organic and locally grown food to the Lower East Side — and it was the first CSA in NYC to institute a sliding scale and installment plan, so poor people in the neighborhood could have good food to eat.
The Center hosts poetry readings, occasional WBAI meetings, Yoga classes, worshops and book release parties, anti-war conferences, Occupy Wall Street working groups, and just all sorts of progressive community-related programs. Let’s help make the 35th anniversary a success. We’d love it if you’d show up, join the festivities, and eat absolutely top-notch organic food, too!
Hey, and you don’t need to show a photo ID to walk in the door! (These days in NYC, that’s saying something!)
I’m also proud to announce the WBAI is partnering with Sixth Street Center over this event.
