FARMING THE WOODS
a book by local authors Ken Mudge & Steve Gabriel
Many of the daily indulgences we take for granted, such as coffee, chocolate, and many tropical fruits, all originate in forest ecosystems. But few know that such abundance is also available in the cool temperate forests of North America. A new book, Farming the Woods, covers in detail how to cultivate, harvest, and market high-value non-timber forest crops such as American ginseng, shiitake mushrooms, ramps (wild leeks), maple syrup, fruit and nut trees, ornamentals, and more. INHABIT: A PERMACULTURE PERSPECTIVE
7:05 PM at Cinemapolis
part of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival
Inhabit (Costa Boutsikaris and Emmett Brennan, USA, 90 min.) A feature length documentary introducing permaculture. It presents a vast array of projects, concepts, and people, and it translates the diversity of permaculture into something that can be understood by an equally diverse audience. For those familiar, it will be a call to action and a glimpse into what’s possible – what kind of projects and solutions are already underway. For those unfamiliar, it will be an introduction to a new way of being and a new way of relating to the Earth. For everyone, it will be a reminder that humans are capable of being planetary healing forces.(Steve & Eizabeth Gabriel’s Wellspring Forest Farm is featured).
